How GPA is Calculated

This calculator helps you convert grades from any country's grading system to the US 4.0 GPA scale, which is widely used by American universities for academic assessment.

Calculation Process

  1. First, your grades are converted to US equivalent grades, then to GPA points using this standard scale:

  2. Each course's GPA points are multiplied by its credits (or hours).

    For example: If you got an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course, that's 12 points (4.0 × 3 = 12).

  3. Finally, all points are added up and divided by the total number of credits to get your GPA.

Important Notes

  • Most undergraduate programs require a minimum GPA of 2.0 (C average).
  • Graduate programs typically require a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B average).
  • While D is technically a passing grade in some institutions, many programs won't accept credits with grades below C.
